[2] 1851, June 9, New Haven, to Jedediah Hunt, Jr., [Chilo, Ohio?]: Pleased by review of his book, but criticizes Hunt for being "led away with a presupposition...the style of [Poe's] "The Vigil of Aiden" [sic] was based upon my Poem to "Allegra Florence in Heaven,..." Asserts that "the 'Refrain' of the Raven" was taken from his poem, "Lament on the deaath of my mother" which is in "The Lost Pleiad". Condemns Gleason and "The Pictorial". Comments on currency problems as well as his magazine work.
